The NTSA regret to announce that it has withdrawn from the SSAI. This decision was not reached lightly, but after careful consideration of the resources expended against very limited returns. It was felt that these resources would be better directed towards the NTSA's own core activities. The committee of the NTSA wish to thank all the SSAI committee members with whom they have worked closely over the years and of course will continue to work with within the framework of the FCP.

Image In a nearly wholly unsurprising turn of events, Ralf Schumann of Germany claimed the Gold medal in the 25m Rapid-Fire pistol, bringing his personal total of medals in this event over the past few decades to three Olympic Gold medals, one Silver medal, and some 34 World Cup gold medals.

In what seemed like a possible upset, Schumann entered the finals tied for first place with Russian shooters Sergei Poliakov and Sergei Alifirenko on 592, five points ahead of the other competitors. However, Schumann held his nerve and shot a 102.9 in the finals, dropping below a ten only once, to finish 2.2 points ahead of Poliakov, who took the Silver medal by a margin of only 0.4 points over Alifirenko.
