Minister Dermot Ahern Outlines Handgun Ban
The Minister for Justice Equality and Law Reform, Mr. Dermot Ahern has outlined new proposals to seriously curtail the licensing of handguns in the state. The full text of his announcement can be found here.

The NTSA has no further details on how exactly this new regime will be implemented, but wish to point to the following paragraph in the Minister's statement "The Minister is prepared to make very limited exceptions in relation to Olympic sports only." Until we have further information, we are advising our members not to initiate any license applications for the present.

The Minister has also specified that radical tightening of the procedures for licensing handguns will be adopted and we assume that these will also apply to our members when they are published. We will advise you should any further details become available.

10m Men's Air Pistol PDF Print E-mail
Written by Mark Dennehy

Image China and Russia have taken yet another Gold and Silver set of medals today with the 10m Men's Air Pistol event, China's Wang Yifu taking the Gold by a margin of 0.2 points over Russia's Mikhail Nestruev in yet another display of how tight the competition is at these games, with the victory decided on the last shot and both a Final score and a Qualifying score Olympic Record being set. The full results show an interesting pattern, with the top two shooters well out in front of the others. The finals results highlight it even more - while only 0.2 points seperate Gold from Silver, a whole 5.5 points seperate the two leaders from the rest of the pack, who spread over only 3.2 points in total.

Air pistol is an interesting event for us to look at right now, as at the moment, air pistols can now be applied for in Ireland for the first time in thirty years. So perhaps in four years time, someone will be writing this article and making mention of an Irish pistol shooter!
