Well, it's begun - the Opening Ceremonies for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens are now underway, with a lot of target shooters carrying their nation's flags around the stadium (Nedzad Fazlija for Boznia-Herzegivina, Maria Grozdeva for Bulgaria, Saeed Almaktoum for the UAE, Fehaid Aldeehani for Kuwait, George Achilleos for Cyprus, Oliver Geissmann for Liechtenstein, William Chetcuti for Malta, Asif Hossain Khan for Bangladesh, Michael Maskell for Barbados, Svitlana Kashchenko for Nicaragua and a very well-known name to NTSA shooters, Harald Stenvaag for Norway).
Don't forget that this weekend sees a lot of target shooting events, starting tomorrow morning with Women's 10m Air Rifle, Men's 10m Air Pistol and Men's Trap, the latter seeing Irish Clay Pigeon shooter Derek Burnett competing - which should be going out on RTE tomorrow morning from 0730 our time. Set that VCR, or get up early folks, Derek's performance in training (as reported on Target.ie) has been excellent, and we could well see a medal here!
