The NTSA regret to announce that it has withdrawn from the SSAI. This decision was not reached lightly, but after careful consideration of the resources expended against very limited returns. It was felt that these resources would be better directed towards the NTSA's own core activities. The committee of the NTSA wish to thank all the SSAI committee members with whom they have worked closely over the years and of course will continue to work with within the framework of the FCP.

Target Shooters and Cyclists raise 1,800 euro for Children in Need PDF Print E-mail

The previously mentioned CycloShoot charity event took place this Friday in Wilkinstown, and was a roaring success, raising over 1,800 euros for the Children in Need charity. Photos of the day are in the photo gallery here.

The CycloShoot consisted of bicycle riding and air rifle
shooting. The participants shot at falling plate targets
with air rifles, then mounted their bicycles and cycled
a circuit of 4.5miles (leaving the air rifles at the
Wilkinstown range). On their return, they then shot at
another series of targets with air rifles. As this was a
charity event, the participants all wore costumes for the
event.

This was the first time anything like this has been done in
Ireland, and generated a great deal of interest locally,
with the cyclists being flagged down by observers and given
donations for Children in Need on the spot. Sponsorship for
the participants also ran high, with one participant, Jim
McGuirk, rising a thousand euros on his own.

The Chairman of the Wilkinstown Target Shooting Club, Matt
Fox, also donated a DVD player to be raffled off on Sunday
Night in Tiernan's pub in Wilkinstown, the proceeds of which
were also donated to Children in Need.

Several members of the Navan Road Club now appear to have
been bitten by the Target Shooting bug and will hopefully now be
taking up the sport on it's own in the Wilkinstown Target
Shooting Club, as will some observers who were watching the
event.

Given the success of the CycloShoot, the National Target
Shooting Association (the National Governing Body for
Olympic Target Shooting in Ireland) in conjunction with the
Federation of Irish Cyclists will be looking at the prospect
of establishing Summer Biathlon as a serious competition
event for the future, and the CycloShoot itself will be run
again for the 2005 Children in Need telethon.

Congratulations to all involved, and well done!
