Richard Stapleton of Wilkinstown Target Shooting Club won the 2009 National 25 yard championships with a combined score of 693.2 and a new National record for the event. Second place went to Ray Reilly of Rathdrum Rifle and Pistol Club and third place was taken by Sandy Wilson of East Coast Shooting Club. Sean Baldwin of the Defence Forces Shooting Team won the three positional event and the Rathdrum team of Ray Reilly, Kealan Symes and Wes Halliday won the Trinity shield.

In the Final, Ray Reilly made an excellent start with two 10.7's to take second place from Sandy Wilson which he then kept for the remainder of the ten shots. Sandy slipped to third and at one stage fourth when Sean Baldwin scored a 10.6, but came back with a 10.7 to reclaim third spot. Richard's advantage going into the final meant that there was little chance of him relinquishing the lead and so it turned out.
