FCP Notice re: Firearms Act roll out
Following advice from the Attorney General that Statutory Instruments giving effect to the firearms act amendments must apply to full sections of the Act and not to part sections, it is now the case that some of the planned roll out of the new firearms code will be delayed at least until the enactment of the Firearms Miscellaneous Bill which is due for publication on July 3rd under the Programme for Government. As a result, the intended classification of restricted firearms will not now be applied on May 1st 2008 as planned.

NTSA Calendar Release PDF Print E-mail
Written by Mark Dennehy

ImageLadies and Gentlemen,
The calendar for the NTSA for the 18 months following Jan 1 2007 has now been prepared and released.

Click here to see the calendar; Read on for further details...

We've had justified complaints from clubs and shooters about the calendar not being dependable enough for shooters to plan around, so we wanted this year to eliminate that undependability while retaining enough flexibility for the calendar to be workable. The new procedure is that every six months we will review the calendar and reissue a calendar for the following 18 months. The first six months of the calendar is intended to be set in stone, unmovable except in case of dire emergency; because to do otherwise is unfair on shooters. We are asking all clubs to help us to achieve this for the sake of their members and the members of the other clubs, and we will provide whatever support to the clubs that we can to help them help us and the shooters to have a solid dependable calendar.

Please note, however, that some additions to the calendar are already in the works for Range Officer courses and Statistics Office courses. These will be announced on the web calendar and by email, but are not being treated as a part of the competitive calendar as yet. By the next NTSA calendar release in June, it is hoped this will have changed; but as these courses are just now getting off the ground, an exception is being made in their case. We ask for your understanding in this exception.

The next six months in the calendar, the 6-to-12 month window, will be more flexible; but we would discourage change for change's sake; while the 12-to-18 month window is a work in progress, as events are announced by clubs and by ISSF and the NSRA and other relevant bodies. We believe that this process can work and produce a calendar that allows shooters to balance their shooting activities with their working and social lives.

For those who are au fait with such things, the NTSA calendar is currently being prepared using iCalendar files through Google Calendar; those who wish to add the NTSA calendars to their own calendars in Google Calendar, Outlook, Kontact, Evolution or other suitable programme can find the details needed here.

Yours in Sport,
--
