FCP Notice re: Firearms Act roll out
Following advice from the Attorney General that Statutory Instruments giving effect to the firearms act amendments must apply to full sections of the Act and not to part sections, it is now the case that some of the planned roll out of the new firearms code will be delayed at least until the enactment of the Firearms Miscellaneous Bill which is due for publication on July 3rd under the Programme for Government. As a result, the intended classification of restricted firearms will not now be applied on May 1st 2008 as planned.

First consultation meeting with Shooters held successfully PDF Print E-mail

Image We held a general meeting of persons interested in the future development of our sport in UCD this weekend, with not a huge amount of notice. This proved to be quite a success, with seventeen people in attendance and a lot of areas covered and points discussed and agreed upon. However, seventeen is obviously not the full membership of the NTSA and so we will hold further open meetings as well as accepting submissions by email or post; and those submissions sought two years ago will also be put back on the table for the course of this process.

It is our opinion that this process is vital. As our Chairman put it on Sunday, there is a place in the NTSA for more than just the shooters - the contributions of the Range Officers, Range Officials, Stats Officers, Childrens Officers, Club Committees and others are all valuable and recognised; but the NTSA's raison d'etre is and always will be the shooters. As such we have a duty to know where the shooters want the sport to go and to facilitate that as best we can.

Therefore it is of great importance that you take part in this process. We will be holding additional meetings for this purpose in the near future, details will be posted here and to the clubs as soon as is possible. In the meantime, please feel free to contact us. The Committee of the NTSA can be contacted through email via the NTSA website (see the Committee page in the Main Menu).

We hope that this process will result in a major positive change for the sport. But we need your help to bring this about. So please, talk to us. Let us know what you think, what you want to see, what doesn't work so well and what could be improved.

Thank you.
