FCP Notice re: Firearms Act roll out
Following advice from the Attorney General that Statutory Instruments giving effect to the firearms act amendments must apply to full sections of the Act and not to part sections, it is now the case that some of the planned roll out of the new firearms code will be delayed at least until the enactment of the Firearms Miscellaneous Bill which is due for publication on July 3rd under the Programme for Government. As a result, the intended classification of restricted firearms will not now be applied on May 1st 2008 as planned.

New Target Shooting Centre to be built in Rathdrum PDF Print E-mail
Written by Mark Dennehy

Image Some of us will have heard of this through the grapevine in the past few weeks, but it's now offical folks; Rathdrum Rifle and Pistol Club's brand new shooting center has gotten the go-ahead to be built!

The specs for the new range are impressive indeed; it will cover 25yd shooting as before, with 13 firing points; 25m smallbore pistol, (assuming all the legal wrinkles get smoothed out); 10m Air Rifle/Pistol with 7 firing points (and the capacity to use the 25yd/m range if a large competition is held so that ISSF finals can be run); and 26 firing points for shooting out to 100m outdoors. There will be a preparation area, a stats office, toilets, a car park, and a landscaped setting - all very civilised!

Here's the layout:

And the interior plan (this is slightly different from the final plan, in that the final plan is this with a wheelchair-accessible toilet added):

Now note that only smallbore and airguns can be fired on the range because of planning permission requirements; but this is definitely the best news we've seen in recent months with regard to facilities. Well done to the Rathdrum Club for having pushed for this since 1999, and it's damn fine to see it come to fruition!

Full details on this development are available on the news page of the new RRPC website.
