If your licence extension has expired

Some of you may be in the situation where your firearms certificate has been applied for, but it has neither been approved nor issued and you may wish to compete in the intervening time even though your extension has expired.

The NTSA wish to advise anyone in this situation to contact their Garda Station or Superintendent's Office and request a permit under section 2(3)(a) of the Firearms Act for the firearm in question to cover a set period of time sufficient to allow the new licence to issue or up to the date of the competition they wish to attend. This will allow the use of the firearm on a range authorised under section 2(4)(d) of the Firearms Act and the right to possess and carry said firearm.

We are not advising anyone who has been refused a licence to follow this route as it is unlikely that an issuing person would issue a permit where they have refused a licence.

International Matches for 2007

Folks, Those international shooters who are looking for targets for their training plans should be advised that the NTSA has selected matches to attend for the remainder of the year. We will not be sending teams to matches not on this list The list of matches for 2007 is: March 12-18 : European Airgun Championships, Deauville, France May 28 - June 4 : ISSF World Cup, Munich, Germany July 10-25 : European Championships, Granada, Spain August 8-10 : GB Junior International, Bisley, UK

Rathdrum Authorisation

As of today, Rathdrum Rifle and Pistol Club are now authorised by the Gardai for the use of .22cal Rifle and Pistol as well as Air Rifle and Pistol on our range in Rathdrum. The authorisation covers the use of these firearms in the prone, kneeling and standing positions as well as benchrest. The authorisation states that the range 'comprehensively meets the requirements'. Coupled with the introduction of electronic targets (the first range in Ireland to use these), this authorisation now allows us to run all the ISSF short range disciplines as well as NSRA 25 yard and benchrest 25 yard. We are now waiting for the go-ahead from Wicklow to re-open on foot of this authorisation. It's been a long and winding road, but at last the end is in sight.

Rathdrum Test Event - 11th February 2007

February Open in Rathdrum Subject to final approval by the Gardai, the February Open is provisionally scheduled to take place on Sunday 11th February 2007. Due to the fact that this will be the first time a competition will be held on the new targets, this will be held as a test event.
