Following advice from the Attorney General that Statutory Instruments giving effect to the firearms act amendments must apply to full sections of the Act and not to part sections, it is now the case that some of the planned roll out of the new firearms code will be delayed at least until the enactment of the Firearms Miscellaneous Bill which is due for publication on July 3rd under the Programme for Government. As a result, the intended classification of restricted firearms will not now be applied on May 1st 2008 as planned. |

I am delighted to announce that this weekend saw the return of the long forgotten UCD vs Trinity shotgun match, after a lengthy absence from the calendar.
DURC submitted two teams, with UCD having just the one. After a closely fought contest (that included a 20/20 from a UCD shooter), UCD took the title by a mere 7 birds.
UCD will no doubt revel in yet another victory over DURC this year!
Many thanks to Hilltop Shooting Club for providing the venue. Special thanks to Kerry O'Brien for being an excellent host, and for helping everyone on the day.
What next for the colleges? The Air Rifle Colours will undoubtedly remain the highlight of the Collegiate calendar, but after the success of this weekend's shotgun match, I'm sure it will become a regular fixture also. Maybe even a full-bore steel challenge....

A very quick thank you to all the competitiors and helpers at this years Air Rifle Championships. This years match ran very smoothly and the finals were very exciting.
Congratulations are extended to all the medal and class winneres. Well done all.
I wish to thank the UCD Club for the use of their facility and for the works they have undertaken to develop their range. The computer system now makes the background work very easy and accessible. The projector for the finals makes the event very spectator friendly and tense.
Thanks again to the all the unnmaed heros in mininorty sports, without whom, the world would be so much duller. Those who look after entries, those who sort targets, those who R/O, those who cover the Stats office, those who watch the timing, those who make the tea, those whose shoulders are needed sometimes. The anxious, excited and proud parents. The partners who bite their lips and hold thier breath when you really shouldn't have taken that shot. The satisfaction of a ten and the cheer for a 10.9. What can I say? magic! Bless you all.

NTSA Monthly Mailshot
April 2, 2007
Hello all.
We slipped a bit in our timetable for this month, I'm afraid. We'd hoped to send this out a day late so that the results from the WTSC Open could be included, but that's slipped because of a dozen other things that landed in the in-tray at the last moment. And while that means that we can bring a rather important if outrageous piece of news on firearms licence fees, we'll try not to let it happen again if possible!
It also means that the Air Rifle Nationals report is being bumped to the next mailshot; for now, we'd just like to congratulate Damien Fagan, 2007's AR60 National Champion and Susan Cunningham, 2007's AR40 and Junior Air Rifle champion.
As always, if you have any queries or suggestions, I want to hear them. Please send them by email to:

Yours in Sport,
Mark Dennehy
